Bernice Estelle Case Reece Parks, 90, of Hickory, died peacefully, August 28, 2016 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born December 3, 1925 in Hendersonville, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Case and Annie Mae Stepp Case. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, and was previously employed as a cosmetologist. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, “always had a packed suitcase”, crafts, walking and line dancing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth W. Reece Sr., her second husband Clifford Parks, daughter, Barbara J. Whiteside and 10 brothers and sisters.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Brenda R. Neal of Hickory, and Cathy R. Bowman and husband John of Hickory; sons, Kenneth W. Reece, Jr and wife Kathryn of Troutman and Thomas C. Reece and wife Sharon of Hickory; grandchildren, Lori Whiteside Garrett of Hickory, Clark Whiteside of Conover, John Neal, Jr of Forest City, Robert Neal of Wilmington, Elizabeth Neal Danner of Greensboro, Todd Reece of Granite Falls, Steven Reece of Claremont, Christina Bowman McCarthy of Charleston, SC, J. Timothy Bowman of Hickory, T. Kevin Reece of Greenville, SC Emily Reece Boyd of Conover and Cynthia Julian of Claremont; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and companion of 15 years Bill Comby.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in The Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Ben Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
