Hickory – Annie Ree Whitener, 76 of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Born on July 17, 1946 in Cleveland County, NC, Annie was the daughter of the late Willie John Smith Sr. and Mary Lee Jenkins Smith. In 1982 she gave her life to Christ and was saved and attended Palmer’s Grove Church and later attended St. Peter’s Holiness Church under Pastor James Mack.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband the late Clarence William Whitener Sr.; her brother Bobby Gene Smith Sr. and a sister, Linda Diane Prysock.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Jada T Smith of Hickory, NC and son Clarence William Whitener Jr. (Sherina) of Hampton, GA. Her grandchildren Amber D. Smith (Khadijah), Mataydra U. Whitener, Alexsia Covington, Jahqui Gibbs, Jayla N. Shuford, Kason Gibbs, Brandon Busby. Her Great Grand Turtle Leonardo Rexington Smith-White.
Her brother Willie John Smith Jr. (Linda) of Atlanta GA, her sisters Mary A. Pugh of Hickory, NC, Sennie M. Smith of Raleigh, NC, Minnie S. Cameron (Robert) of Sanford, NC. As well as numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 2pm with Pastor Minnie S. Cameron officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1pm to 2pm.
