Anna Lee Pardue Cook of Newton, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Thursday January 25, 2018 at Abernethy Laurels Retirement Home. She was born on September 8th, 1915 in Roaring River, North Carolina to Jeter Parks and Minnie Jane Pardue, both deceased.
Ann (affectionately known as Granna) had been a devoted wife to her husband Vance Cook who preceded her in death in 1972. Together, they began a successful restaurant career in 1933 in Granite Falls, NC. They came to the Newton-Conover area in 1952 and owned and operated Mackie’s Restaurant on Highway 64 and then Cook’s Restaurant in Newton until 1976. She was a woman of many talents, great strength and Faith. She nurtured and educated her family and always led by example. She was a founding member of First Methodist Church, Conover, N.C. and a member of the Parker Sunday School class at First Methodist Church in Newton.
She is preceded in death by her children, William Vance Cook Jr. of Gastonia, N. C. and H. Lynn Reid of Charlotte, N. C. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jo Ann Cecil of Wake Forest, N. C. and Barbara Mamer of Atlantis, Florida; her sister, Mary Kirby of Winter Park, Florida; son-in law, Rufus E. Reid, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Connie (Dan) Wendt of Raleigh, N.C. , Parks Reid of Ocean Isle, N. C., Kelly & Jody Reid of Charlotte, N.C., Marty Reid of Columbia, S. C.; Wayne Cecil (Wendy) of Rolesville, N.C., Garrison Vance Cook (Rene), of Maiden N.C., Lisa Cook of Newton, and Yetta Shapiro of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; nine great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews. She anticipated the birth of a great-great grandson in February 2018 and a great-granddaughter in July 2018.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the chapel at Catawba Funeral Home in Hickory, NC. A graveside service will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
