COL. WILLIAM DENTON U.S. Army, Retired William Delbert Denton, 87, of Las Vegas, passed away April 13, 2012. He was born Jan. 9, 1925 in Glen Richey, Pa., and was a 12-year resident of Nevada. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1943-1946, and the U.S. Army Reserves from 1946-1985. He was commissioned second lieutenant, Infantry in 1949 and retired at rank of colonel. William graduated from New Milford Pennsylvania Consolidated School in 1942, East Stroudsburg State College in 1949, Bucknell University in 1950, with an MS degree in guidance, Penn State in 1959 with a doctorate in counselor education. He married Florence Kucharski Aug. 16, 1952 and had a 45-year teaching career, beginning as a teacher and counselor with Mechanicsburg Public Schools, and later as a counselor educator at St. Lawrence University, Rhode Island College, and the State University College, Oneonta, N.Y. He retired in 1994. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the National Education Association, the United University Professions, the Reserve Officers Association, and the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by parents, William D. and Faye (Divins) Denton; and wife, Florence Denton, He is survived by son, Alan of Everett, Ma.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mark Thurber of Las Vegas; daughters, Dee Ann of Las Vegas and Nancy of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Shirley Phillips; niece, Terry Bailey of Susaquehanna, Pa.; and nephew, William Phillips of Mansfield, Pa. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m., Friday, April 20, at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services following at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd. Donations to United Services Organization, Humane Society, or a charity of your choice .
