Raymond Russo, age 80, of Henderson, Nevada passed, away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in Henderson, Nevada. He was born February 6, 1940 in the borough of Bronx New York to Jennie (Scicchigno) Russo and Anthony Russo. Ray attended PS48 to grade five and then attended St. Brendan's from 1951 to 1953. He graduated from St. Helena's high school in June of 1957 and went on to further his education at Westchester Community College until 1959. Ray earned an Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences degree after majoring in electrical technology. Ray continued his education at Hofstra College for several semesters (1960-1963) for electrical engineering before enrolling in Michigan State University in 1961 and ending his college education there in December 1962.
Ray's first employment was with Traveler's Insurance Company and went on to Sperry Gyroscope Company in great Neck New York as an Electronic Tester. From June of 1959 till his retirement in 2000, Ray worked for Sperry Rand UNIVAC; later changed to Unisys in various capacities: software development, basic systems support, code development, marketing support services and customer support emergency line. Through his hard work and dedication, Ray was awarded the Unisys Quality Champion Award in 1990. Petty Officer 2nd Class Raymond Russo served in the Navy Reserve as an Aviation Electronics Technician on Radar Systems from February 1963 to February 1971, earning certification in Electrical Technology.
Family and friends are devastated losing him to COVID-19 January 27, 2021. He leaves behind his wife Josephine (Price) (Wright) Russo; children: Michael Russo, Daniel Russo and Patrick Russo; step children: Laura Wright Allen and Jon W. Wright Jr; sisters: Nancy Paternico and Rosalie Cibulka; and two grandchildren: Michael Pernigotti and Christopher Wright.
His memory will live on in the dedication he had for his family, the kindness he showed to others and the comfort he brought into the lives of his family. They will never forget how he lived each day to the fullest, his joy in helping others and the happiness he derived from overcoming obstacles. Ray's love for music and dancing were a driving force in his life that brought him much enjoyment and a host of like-minded friends. All electronics, cars, trains and planes engaged his curiosity and comprehension; any broken object was a challenge for him to fix and delighted anyone on the receiving end of his endeavor.
Memorial Services will be Friday, April 23, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Committal services will follow in Palm Henderson Cemetery.
Due to Covid-19 - All government restrictions will be in place and all guests in attendance will be required to wear a mask.
