Howard E. "Gene" Skinner, a resident of Nevada for 80 years, passed away Nov. 25, 2011, in Boulder City, at the age of 91. He was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Burmeister (Tooele), Utah, to William Burton and Zina Elizabeth (Swenson) Skinner. Gene proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, from 1941 to 1946 and retired from the Nevada State Highway Department as a Highway III/Resident Engineer. He loved to go fishing, hunting, traveling and also enjoyed working in his garden and playing pool. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Bums Club, American Legion and the V.F.W., James Jewell Post #3547 in Ely. He held the offices of surgeon, vice commander and commander. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eva Dickinson Skinner; his wife, Evelyn Bishop Skinner; his companion, Della Andreas; grandson, Cody Eugene-Scott Wilson; sisters, Maxine Toles, Betty Thiessen and Ruth Smith; and brothers, William, Ray, Robert, Donald, Jack and Clarence Skinner. Gene is survived by his son, Richard (Ramona) Baughman of Henderson; daughter, Vickie (Dean) Modica of Jamestown. N.Y.; grandchildren, Richard (Denelle) Baughman, Kim (Don) Ellis, Danae Wilson and Sasha Wilson; great-grandchildren, Brittney (Dustin) Erickson, Dustin Ellis, Dylan Ellis and Jessie Baughman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gene's family and friends will always remember him for his love, laughter, smile, caring and kindness. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday Dec. 1. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, both at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the - Southern Nevada Chapter, Creekside Hospice or the Homestead at Boulder City.
