Gloria Jean Schenk, 74, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2022 in Henderson, Nevada due to complications of Leukemia. She was not aware that she was ill. Gloria, also endearingly as “Glor,” “Mom,” “Mamma,” “Grandma” and “Gigi” was the greatest spouse, mother, sister, grandmother and friend that anyone could hope for in a lifetime. She was born on February 8, 1948 in Baltimore, MD. She grew up in Little Italy with her loving parents, Anthony and Stefania Culotta, and her two beautiful sisters Lorraine and Sue. She graduated from Parkville High School where she received her High School Diploma. She met and married Joseph Schenk, the love of her life, on April, 28 1996.
Gloria had a passion for her family, who meant the world to her. “I’ve got your back” was her motto. Her generous spirit, infectious laugh, outgoing nature and fun-loving personality lit up the world of those who loved her. She could always be counted on to lend support, a helping hand, an ear to listen to and a shoulder to cry on. She was her family’s rock, and the glue that kept everyone together. She took this on in her volunteer work, where she comforted women with Breast Cancer at John’s Hopkins hospital and donated to a number of charities. She loved travelling the world with her husband, Joe, and kept photo albums of every adventure that she embarked upon. She was a faithful member of the church community and prayed the Rosary every day. The Rosary’s promise is a peaceful death, and she was blessed by that promise.
There wasn’t a battle that couldn’t be faced or an obstacle that couldn’t be overcome. A self-proclaimed “fixer,” she was fearless, compassionate, selfless, honest and dependable. She was outgoing and talkative, disarming and charming. She described herself as “dancing to the beat of her own drum,” and her off-beat, quirky charm softened everyone’s hearts. She was the epitome of multi-faceted and endearingly referred to herself as a “toughie.” She was a musician, a poet, an organizer, a problem-solver, a caregiver, a dog lover (German Shepherds) and loved television (especially Fox News). She also enjoyed going to the church and the casino, as well as going on cruises and met various friends along the way.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Schenk, daughter Allison Erdman (husband Chris, daughter Lily) and son John Culotta.
Stepchildren Jennifer Schenk Turner (husband Matt, daughters Ryland and Cayden), Joseph Schenk Jr. (wife Rhonda, son Henry), and Joanne Goodchild (husband Kevin, daughters Dona Star, Charlotte and Josie).
Sisters Lorraine Murray (husband Paul) and Susan Morris (husband Kenny).
Nieces Stacey Murray, Heather Bonzi (husband Ned, children Jordan, Jenna and William), Kelly Fricke (Husband John, children Kierstan and Caleb).
Nephew Paul Murray (wife Shannon, children Larsen and Jackson).
