Charles F. Chappell

Charles Frederick Chappell was born on April 14, 1945 in Culver City, California to his parents Frederick and Florence Chappell. Charles was raised in Culver City, California with his two brothers, Bill and George; and one sister, Barbara. As a young child, Charles developed a variety of interests, and the things he enjoyed doing, he did well. He enjoyed playing basketball, participated as a boy scout; and in his spare time he liked playing cowboys, pretending to be Roy Rogers. However, what Charles enjoyed most was simply playing and spending time with his friends. Charles Graduated from Culver City High School, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree from Cal State Long Beach.

Charles hard work in college opened the door to a long career working the Fluor Daniel Corporation as a constructional engineer; a company in which he was employed for over 30 years. Charles greatly enjoyed what he did for a living. He was a hard worker who expected the same in return from his co-workers. Charles enjoyed traveling, and working for the Fluor Daniel Corporation had him traveling extensively all over the world. He traveled to places like: South Korea; Nagoya, Japan; Secunda, South Africa; Rochester, New York; Las Cruces, New Mexico; Irvine, California; West Chester, Ohio; Greenville, South Carolina; Salt Lake City, Utah; Shanghai, China; London, England; and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Charles, was a loving and caring father to his children. As a single father, he knew the importance of balancing a demanding career and raising his children. He was a good parent to them, always firm yet fair in his dealings. He would always listen carefully and think things through before he acted, even when it was an adverse situation. Charles was blessed with two children, one son, Daniel; and one daughter, Marissa; who were the center of his world. Charles was devoted to his family, and was always available for them.

Charles always tried to allocate a specific time for working on his hobbies and interests. His favorite pastimes were playing Golf and watching Formula One Racing.

Charles was fortunate to have numerous acquaintances and several very close friends during his life. It was not uncommon for Charles to go beyond the call of duty for others, and friends frequently sought him out for advice because he had a knack for coming up with practical solutions to any type of dilemma. While growing up, his best friend was Rheinhardt Hudak. Later in life, he became friends with Mike Garby, Pat and Kevin Hanson, and Karen Allen. He was committed to his friends and valued the trust he placed in them.

When Charles’s retirement finally arrived in 2007, he was well prepared. He always trusted and placed value in what was logical and in the things he knew, so he was very confident in planning his retirement. His new life involved relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. In retirement, he found pleasure in spending more time with his family and playing Golf. Even in retirement, Charles continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances.

Charles F. Chappell passed away on November 8, 2019 at Henderson, Nevada. He is survived by his children: Daniel (Estela) and Marissa; brothers: George and Bill; sister, Barbara; nieces, and one nephew.

Charles F. Chappell was a modest man, quiet and observant in his ways. He was trustworthy and traditional in his approach to his life and in his relationships. He was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew him. He was also a man who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything he undertook. He was committed to living the life of a good man who was both practical and trustworthy and to the traditional values that he upheld his entire life.
