Lucas M Hernandez was born March 7th, 1921 in Reserve New Mexico to Partocinio and Rosaura Martinez. She was the youngest daughter of 12 brothers and sisters. Her early years were spent on the family's property, Rancho Grande, located just outside of the small town of Reserve. She moved to Albuquerque as a teen and graduated from the Sandia View Academy, she attended college in Lincoln Nebraska. After college she moved to Socorro New Mexico where she met her future husband, Joseph Hernandez. They married November 16th, 1952. They moved to Riverside Ca, so Joseph could attend and later finish ministerial school. In 1953 Lucas had her first daughter Nina and in 1957 she gave birth to her second daughter Tina.
Lucas being a preacher's wife dedicated her life to Christian ministries, her life mission was to be helpful and comforting to others in any way that she could. She was an avid reader and loved to journal; she kept a journal throughout her whole life. Lucas always enjoyed visiting with church members and her many nieces and nephews.
On Tuesday March 13th, 2018, Lucas Hernandez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt passed away at the age of 97 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Hernandez and her two children Nina Thesman and Tina Dixon along with their husbands, Dana Thesman and Jim Dixon. Grandchildren Jennifer, Stephanie, Ashley, James, Tiffany, Erik, Taylor, and Courtney, great-great grandchildren Roman, Jax, Savannah, Billy, Joshua, Aiden, Jacob, Brodie and Piper.
