George Wilbur Reed, Jr. passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 in Murrieta, California; he was born on September 9, 1928 in Huntington Park, CA to the late George Wilbur Reed and the late Noma (Dowd) Begelman.
George was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from UCLA with honors, earning a membership in the Tau Beta Pi Society in 1951. He then served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1952 - 1955 where he earned the National Service Defense Medal and was promoted to Lieutenant at the end of his service. He was awarded a Master's Degree in Engineering from UCLA in 1957 and was an Aerospace Engineer for 15 years with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in Sunnyvale, CA. George and his wife, Beverly, also owned and operated several small businesses throughout the years.
George was a talented wood carver and loved gardening. A true passion for him was being a Docent for 20 years at the San Diego Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, California.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly, and son, Brian.
