Paul Clement Petit was born January 29, 1919 in Louisville, Kentucky the son of Marius and Mary (Miles) Petit. Paul moved with his family to Winter, WI at the age of 1, where he attended school. Paul began to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Wisconsin. On October 6, 1940 Paul was joined in marriage to Edith Pippenger in Ladysmith, WI. Paul was a logger and started his own sawmill business which became a lumber/hardware store in Winter. After operating the store for several years Paul and Edith sold the business and built Petit’s Rustic Inn on Lake Winter. Upon retiring from the resort business Paul continued trapping. He truly loved being in the woods and trapping and did this until he was 90 years old. His happiness came from spending time with his family and being out in the woods.
Paul is survived by his children, Charles of Wausau, WI, Greg (Sheila) of Hayward, Paula of Eau Claire, WI, Kim Kelly of Pasadena, TX, Robin (Jay) Ladenthin of Birnamwood, WI, Scott (Kathy)Petit of Spooner, WI; 20 grandchildren: Lynette, Paul, Carmen, Curt, Brian, Todd, Nathan, Justin, Chad, Resha, Shannon, Nicole, Nick, Raymond, Sally, Jennifer, April, Andrea, Philip, Jodi; 32 great grandchildren; siblings, Teresa Witt of Milwaukee, WI, Ralph Petit of Winter, Louie Petit of Alaska, Rita Kraft of Waller, TX, Alice Hollister of Idaho, Katherine Nork of Louisville, KY; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edith; three children, Mary Addleman, Orinda Petit and infant Paulie C. Petit; daughter-in-law: Karen Petit; three brothers: Art, Bertel & Marcel Petit; two sisters: Sylvia Shimunek & Lillian Meyer.
A graveside service will be held for Paul at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14th, at the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Winter, WI.
