BOSSIER CITY, LA – A Funeral Mass will be held for Wilson S. Updyke at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 4700 Palmetto Rd. Benton, with Fr. Pike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville. The family will be receiving friends for visitation on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
Wilson was born to Wilson “Slim” and Margaret Updyke in Savage, MD on February 11, 1936. He went to be with his Savior on March 1, 2015. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served proudly for over 20 years. He then began a career in civil service at The National Institute of Health. Wilson was a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He was also a member of VFW Post 5951, American Legion, Loyal Order of the Elks and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and watching sports. His favorite was baseball, and his team was the Baltimore Orioles. Wilson loved animals and his special little dog, Ikabod. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Updyke, children James Bassford and wife Mary, Robert Bassford and wife Peggy, Gregory Updyke and wife T.J. and Barbara Audibert and husband Jon, grandchildren Erin Ruth Taylor and husband Dustin, Evan Andrew Bassford, Kelly Bastrop and husband Matt, Sean Audibert and wife Sarah and Courtney Lane Bassford, great grandchild Sophia Audibert, sister Shirley Souder and niece Christina Kuss.
The family would like to thank the Overton Brooks Veterans Hospital and Cornerstone Hospital for the care they have shown the past few months.
