Most significant among the many honors and decorations he earned during his Air Force career, he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and the Defense Superior Service Medal.
After retiring from the USAF in 1985, Col. Dickson returned to Bossier City, LA and continued to serve his community. He was a charter member of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Posse, serving 22 years in that organization.
Mr. Dickson was a 33rd degree Mason, Past Master of Southern Hills Lodge 464, Past Grand Master of the Grand Commandery of Louisiana, and a member of several Masonic organizations including the Knight Crusaders of the Cross, the Knights Templar, the Knights of the York Cross of Honor, the Red Cross of Constantine, the National Sojourners, and Heroes of ’76.
On August 15, 2018, after a brief but valiant fight against cancer, Col. Dickson slipped the surly bonds of earth, put out his hand, and touched the face of God.
Mr. Dickson is preceded in death by his father, mother, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Chloe; daughter, Elizabeth; his sons, Charles and wife Debbie, Matthew, David and wife BridgeAnn, and Patrick; his brother, Carey Meredith; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 17th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18th at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, followed by interment in Hill Crest Memorial Park.
