Lieutenant Colonel, U.S Air Force
Stanley M. Maillet passed from this earth to something much more glorious than we can imagine on September 10, 2022 during a short hospital stay while fighting covid and COPD.
Stanley was born March 10th, 1935 to Weady and Myrtle Rabalais Maillet in Bordelonville, Louisiana. He was the third of four biological children born into the family and was raised with a cousin. He attended Bordelonville schools through his senior year. He was active in band, basketball and track. Upon graduation Stanley attended at Louisiana State University and began his love affair with ALL things LSU!
Stanley went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from LSU in 1958 and was commissioned that same year as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He served 21 years on active duty, retiring in 1979 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Stanley’s active-duty service in Vietnam included responsibilities as the administrative officer for the 17th Special Operations Squadron for missile combat crew evaluation and standardization. Other positions included B-52 standardization crew member, and chief – 2nd Bomb Wing Command Post. In addition, he flew 280 combat missions in Vietnam including four over Hanoi and North Vietnam.
Among his military awards are Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 13 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Viet Nam Service Medal.
After leaving military service, Lt. Col Maillet was foundry superintendent at KAST Metals Corporation and sales Engineer for Zimmerman Company. He was a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association and Air Force Association, he served as a board member of the Barksdale Air Force Base Military Golf Retirement Tourney, served four terms as president of the Parkway High School Band Boosters, was a member of Cadets of the Ole War Skule, Tiger Athletic Foundation and the Tiger Athletic Association.
Stanley was proceeded in death by his parents and 4 siblings along with their spouses; Mack Maillet (Mary Ola), Juanita Tassin (Ralph), Nathan Maillet (Liz), Myrtle Williams (Ross). He was also proceeded in death by his son-in-law Troy Menard.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Gretchen Ducote Maillet, daughters Michelle Menard, Nicole Senecal (Kenny), Denise Rains (Matthew), Renee McConnell (Chris). Stanley had 7 grandchildren, Sean Altman, Sara Huber (Jeff), Nicolas Rains (Jana), Scott Menard, Josh Rains (Aimee), Kelsey McConnell, and Jake McConnell, 4 great grandchildren – Chloe Altman, Kylie Rains. Nicolas Rains Jr. and Thaddeus Hill.
