Sharon Tharpe Paul Stevens, age 71 of Shreveport, Louisiana entered into the presence of her Lord on, Monday, October 7, 2024, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born on August 17, 1953 in Minden Louisiana to the late Dr Jimmy G. Tharpe and Dr. Edith Tharpe.
She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana and lifelong member of Baptist Tabernacle Church that was founded in 1956 by her father, Dr. Jimmy G. Tharpe. Sharon enjoyed praising Jesus and growing in Christ with her beloved church family and has many beautiful memories of growing up in the church and hearing her daddy bring the word of God into the hearts of countless souls.
Sharon was an educator at Baptist Christian Academy and worked as an administrative assistant there for 26 years, she later worked alongside her sister Kathy as owner/operator of All About Nails in Shreveport where she met many cherished friends and clients.
Sharon loved a good card game, her large family, a good meal, rocking babies, hallmark movies, and going to the beach with her family. She also loved football and has been known to run down the sidelines along with her son Bryan, cheering him on. Sharon often pulled for the underdog in sports and in real life. She loved to fish and would always say that she caught the first one, the biggest, and the most fish. She was quick witted and had a knack for making people laugh, she had a huge heart and was quick to cry when she was speaking about the things that were near and dear to her heart.
Sharon was reunited at the gates of heaven by her father Dr. Jimmy G Tharpe, mother, Edith Moore Tharpe, sister, Debbye Tharpe Langley, brother, Jim Tharpe and her beloved husband, Albert “Al” Stevens.
Left to cherish her beautiful memories are sons, Bryan Paul and wife DeeDee, and Brandon Paul. Three daughters, Abi Stevens, Heather Stevens Turner and husband Joseph, and Natalie Stevens. Siblings, Kathy Tharpe Martin and husband Phil, Roger Tharpe and wife Karen, Brenda Tharpe Scott and husband Paul, and Sister-in-law Kim Tharpe. Grandchildren, Myranda Declue and husband Coty, Jamie Matthews and husband Doug, Mia Watson, Damyn Dauser, Joseph, Alexa and Jolie Turner. Great Grandchildren, Kennedy and Josie Matthews, “Honorary” daughter Rachel Duncan, “Honorary” son JD Duncan, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and her loving church family. Sharon also had a host of friends whom she loved dearly. Proverbs 18:24 states “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” and for Sharon, this was CJ Thomas, who has always been there for her in times of need, as well as being a dedicated friend and caregiver.
Honoring Sharon as pallbearers are her nephews Paul Martin, Corey Tharpe, Trey Tharpe, Dustin Tharpe, Patrick Tharpe and Tyler Reid. Honorary Pallbearers are Jonathan Martin and Nathan Lorick.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to our Baptist Tabernacle family for years of support, friendships, prayers and condolences.
