Malvern E. Hannum

Mal "Hanzo" Hannum was born on January 20, 1938 in Washington, D.C. to Nancy Beamer and Malvern Edwin Hannum, Sr. A Vietnam veteran, he entered the Air Force after high school and began a military career lasting over 24 years. After his military retirement, he and his wife Shigeko moved to Bossier City, Louisiana and Mal worked as a lab technician for the Bossier Parish Water Company for 25 years.

Mal loved the ocean, and often visited his daughter Nancy in California. He adored her husband Ed - often saying he was a good dude despite the fact he was crazy enough to fly off carriers when he was in the Navy. He had an awesome sense of humor and always greeted everyone with an infectious smile. He loved watching old movies, he listened to all kinds of music - he and his daughter would often sing together songs from Roger's and Hammerstein musicals, and he especially loved the Beatles. When he joined the Air Force, he also belonged to a quartet called the Page Boys. He would often sing "I Only Have Eyes For You" to his daughter as she was growing up. He was a loving father, a devoted husband and great friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy (Hannum) Hardesty, Malvern Hannum Sr., and Wayne Hardesty and sister, Annetta Dunlap.

Hanzo is survived by his wife Shigeko Hannum; daughter, Nancy Hannum Robbins, her husband Edward Robbins, his brother Robert Hardesty and sister Tammy Hardesty, and nieces and nephews.

Services celebrating his life will be held at a later date by the family.
