Kathleen (Kass) Annette Ellis Gray passed away peacefully at her home in the arms of her loving family February 12, 2011 at the young age of 60 years. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Alvin Ellis, husband Billy M. Gray, and sister Mary Jane Ellis Dedrick. Kass is survived by her mother Juanita Mae Ellis, daughters Heather Schroeder and Andrea Gray, stepdaughters Angie Sease and Christie McBride, sister Cherylynn Ellis Rigaud, 12 grandchildren and 1 nephew, and the love of her life and soul mate Larry Foreman.
Kass was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. She was among the initial cadre of female airmen allowed into the aircraft maintenance career field working as a B-52 Jet Engine Mechanic. As a wife and mother she prided herself as a Domestic Goddess. Kass held several high offices in VFW Post 5951 Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 421, was the second woman in Louisiana to be inducted into Voiture 1588, a very high honor, and a flamboyant presence in her Red Hatter outings. She worked as long as she could as the assistant to the music director for Shreveport First United Methodist Church and was very appreciative of their prayers and support during her final days. The family extends a special heartfelt thank you to CHRISTUS Hospice, and to her two close friends Nancy Johnson, and Melanie Barron.
A celebration of life service will be held at Hill Crest Funeral Home Chapel in Haughton, Louisiana, Saturday February 26th at 2 PM. Regina Wren will officiate the service. A separate service will be held at the Ellis home in Denton Texas, Sunday March 6th at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the music department of Shreveport First United Methodist Church and to SmileTrain (www.SmileTrain.org).
