John H. McDonald

John H. McDonald, age 80, of Haughton, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana. John was born in 1943, in Texas City, Texas to A. L. McDonald and Ayleen Stewart McDonald.

John retired from Dow Chemical after 37 years of service as a chemical technician. He was a dedicated member of Eastwood Baptist Church. On July 6, 1976, he was raised a Master Mason in St. Charles No. 445 and later joined Haughton Lodge No. 95 F. & A.M. on June 10, 2018, where he served as Tyler until his passing. He also held the position of Worthy Patron multiple times in both A.V. Smith No. 5 and Bossier City No. 175, Order of Eastern Star.

He enjoyed fishing during the spring and summer and eagerly anticipated the opening day of hunting season each year. He often said that even if he didn't get one, there was a sense of peace and relaxation in simply being out in nature.

John is survived by his wife Rovenia Kirby McDonald; two sons, Shawn Lawson McDonald, wife Nancy and Gordon McDonald, wife Jacquelyn; daughter Ayleen McDonald Cook, husband Chris; 12 grandchildren Kyrios McDonald, Megan McDonald Kirby, Karrah McDonald Bietz, Conner McDonald, Carter McDonald, Killian Cook, Mirinda Cook, Kaeleen Cook, Dr. Taylor Powell, Britney Powell Wright, Gage McDonald, Samantha McDonald; three great-grandchildren and five nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, A. L. McDonald; mother, Ayleen Stewart McDonald; and grandson, Samson Gordon McDonald.

Pallbearers will be the Masonic Brothers.

A visitation for John will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037. A celebration of life will occur Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037, with Rev. Brad Kirby officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Order of the Eastern Star charities, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cancer Research, and First Responders.

The family would like to extend special thanks to nursing and doctors of Willis Knighton Pierremont, Hill Crest Memorial, and friends who so often called and prayed.
