Jim Turley

Haughton, LA

Jim Turley of Haughton, LA was born April 13, 1943 in Slaughters, KY and passed away at home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Jim attended Murray State University in Murray, KY. After graduation, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army serving two years of active duty (1966-68) during the Vietnam War era. He then returned to Kentucky and went to work for ITW in Russellville.

In 1980, Jim accepted a job with Morton Thiokol at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant where he worked in various management positions before being promoted to Operations Director. After the ammunition plant closed, Jim worked for Trinity Industries in Longview, TX for a time and then returned to the Shreveport area and worked for GOEX, Inc. until retirement.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Turley, his mother Dean (Sadler) Turley, and an infant brother, Kerry Turley. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Lou (Higdon)Turley, brother, Mike Turley and wife Khadra of Mayfield, KY, son, Brian Turley and wife Jeanne of Haughton, LA, daughter Myra (Turley)Cunningham and granddaughter Madalyn Cunningham also of Haughton, LA.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, Haughton, LA. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Chris Anthony, Tom Bridges, Steve Harbour, Bill Rembert, Chad E. Patterson and David Trippel.

The Turley family wishes to express their appreciation to Wyvonee Goodwin, RN and to the other wonderful care givers from St. Joseph’s Hospice, and also to Bill Rembert for being such a helping friend to Jim through his time of need.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 668 Jordan St., Shreveport, LA., Wounded Warrior Foundation, USO, or charity of your choice.
