Jim was born on June 26, 1933 in Jena, LA to Edgar and Inez (Allen) Coleman. He graduated from Jena High School in 1952 and attended Louisiana Tech (1952-1957) to further his education. While attending college he played quarterback and running back for the Bulldogs. After receiving his Masters Degree in Education he began his career in education. He was a longtime educator, mentor and head coach for Bossier High School. While coaching at BHS he met and married the love of his life, Jimmie Ruth Tynes. He went on to serve as the Director of Transportation for Bossier Parish Schools. After retiring from the Bossier Parish School system, he went on to teach and coach football at Loyola College Prep. Jim was later inducted into the Bossier High School Hall of Fame. He was a devoted Bearkat and loved to support BHS athletics throughout the years.
Jim found great enjoyment watching his kids and grandkids and all their academic and athletic endeavors, as well as family vacations at the beach and fishing at the camp. He didn't shy away from coaching his kids and grandkids on the sidelines and stands, sometimes much to their dismay!
