Herman Jack Derbonne II went to be with his Lord on December 14, 2022. Jack was born on November 7, 1957 to Anita and Herman Jack Derbonne in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of thirty-five years, Diane Headrick Derbonne, and two sons, Jared Smalley and wife Jessica, Jack Derbonne III and fiancée Tyler Schufft, and special nephews Parker and Pryce; his sisters Dianne Steiner, Dale Robinson; sister-in-law Faye Derbonne and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Otis Lemie Derbonne.
Jack joined the Christus Schumpert Heart Team in 1985. He thoroughly enjoyed his years working in medical perfusion. Jack had an inquisitive nature for technology and later expanded to “bio med” of all operating room equipment including the lasers. The word “no” was not in his vocabulary. He had the gift of organization. He was a problem solver and could fix anything. Team members described him as “indispensable”. He was a perfectionist. Jack received numerous awards in recognition of his work over the years. He also served as an auxiliary officer for the Bossier City Police Department for several years and obtained an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice.
In addition to being valued and appreciated at work, he was everything to his family! He was a quiet, humble man with a servant’s heart. He was a man of many talents and projects. Jack was a wonderful husband who spoiled his wife. He was a devoted dad teaching his boys the importance of having a relationship with the Lord. He was very proud of his family including his daughter-in-law, Jessica, and his daughter-in-law to be, Tyler. Jack enjoyed fishing, trips to Florida, cooking, tinkering with electronics, taking care of his dog, Ellie, and most of all spending time with us . Some might say we took good care of him… but in truth – he took excellent care of us. Our family has been blessed beyond measure to have been loved by him.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to William Haynie, M.D. and Korie Frantom, RN, Advanced Cardiology Associates, Scott Howard M.D., Northwest Louisiana Nephrology and the Christus Highland CCU team for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank Alan Borne, M.D., Richard Haynie, M.D. and R. Kirk Saucier, M.D. for the care provided to Jack over the years.
