Grady attended Minden High School (1973) and was a state champion and held the state record for several years in the discus. He attended Northwestern State University on a scholarship for track and field and football. He graduated from NSU with a BS in Industrial Technology in 1977 and started his career at WKM Wellhead in Shreveport for several years before going to work at Calumet Refinery in Princeton where he retired from after 35 years. He joined the East 80 Volunteer Fire Department (BPFD #1) in 1988 where he served for 33 years. He was a Firefighter, Captain, Assistant Chief, Fire Chief for 20 years, and finally served on the fire board. Two of his biggest accomplishments at BPFD #1 were receiving the Life Saver Award and Firefighter of the Decade Award.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Lee, Sr.; father-in-law, John M. Savage, mother-in-law, Sue Nowlin Savage, and brother-in-law, Stephen Ponder.
Grady is survived by his wife, Debra Jhan Lee; son, Benjamin Grady Lee and wife Wendy; daughter, Katie Lee Smith and husband Randall; grandchildren, Caleb Lee, Caden Lee and Brelynn Smith; mother, Elenora A. Lee; sisters, Sharon Russell (Chuck), Gale Straley (Harry) and Teri Lee Ponder; uncle, Robert Lee as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A visitation for Grady will be held Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Following the visitation, a storytelling gathering will be held at Open Road Fellowship Pavilion where family and friends can share fond memories of Grady. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church Haughton. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be members of Bossier Parish Fire District #1.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BPFD #1 Fireman's Fund, Open Road Fellowship, or First Baptist Church Haughton.
