After retirement, Freda lived in Homer, Louisiana alongside the love of her life, the affectionately nicknamed “Otto” Hinze. As the matriarch of the Hollis family, Freda was known for being a home to all in both substance and spirit. Her door was always open to family members, culminating in a home that was not hers alone, but a place of solace for all. She was known to welcome loved ones with kind words and a sparkling sense of humor, neither of which were lost with age.
Though her greatest joy was said to be her family, Freda was a woman with many passions. Much of her free time was spent gardening and growing fresh vegetables beside her lakeside home, where family gatherings took place each holiday season. She nurtured this love for gardening in the Homer Garden Club, as well as through her notoriously spicy home cooking. Aside from cooking and gardening, Freda was an avid and talented golfer, even winning a Ladies Golf Club Championship at the former Eastwood Fairways. She was also a member of the Homer Red Hatters, The Alpha Club and involved in clubs that made quilts and dolls for children, where her creative and generous nature flourished.
As a young woman, Freda’s strong intellect and independence led her to enroll in Bossier Parish Community College. After attending school, she worked with international employees as a Payroll Supervisor for Enron, from which she retired in 2001. She then carried on her professional influence through a long-time membership with the American Payroll Association.
Freda’s endless kindness, intelligence, and wit will be remembered with fondness by those of all generations. Her impact extended to everyone in the community, including her church and her husband’s family (the Pete Lester family of Breaux Bridge). Her family would also like to extend their warm thanks to the community that has supported her in these last years- for being special friends and true caregivers, their gratitude goes out to Alfreda, Maria, Suzone, Connie, and Patty Linder.
