Evelyn, one of nine children, was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana in 1934 to Noah Bernard and Aimee Pearly Chiasson. In 1950 she married Sylvain, the love of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and her radiant and joyful spirit has been a beacon of light in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her personal journey in life was defined by and reflected kindness, generosity, compassion, empathy, humor, and an unconditional love for her family. Her profound and unwavering faith and love for God was a daily source of inspiration. Even though we mourn our loss, may we remember she will continue to lovingly and gently guide us all the days of our lives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Aimee Chiasson; brothers, Ray, CJ, Lois, Award, Charles and Jerry; sisters, Mary and Sugar and her precious great-grandson, Owen.
Those who remain to honor and cherish her memory are her devoted and loving husband of 74 years, Sylvain L. Duet, Jr.; sons, David (Michele), John (Saprina), James (Mindy); and daughter, Andria Long (Barron); grandchildren, Rachael (Greg), Paul, Matthew (Kim), Michelle (Eric), Andrew (Megan), Katelyn, Justin (Ivonne), Christopher (Beth), Donovan (Catherine), Brittany (Lance), John Alex, Ashley, Lauren and Jessica (Nate); great grandchildren, Ethan (Alyssa), Austin (Haley), Emily (Blake), Ashley, Greg Thomas, Jr. (Caelyn), Caden, Camdyn, Luke, Ryder, Rhett, Teagan, Jaxon, Elie, Aiden, Nova Jean, Lucas Scott, Fiona, Melody and Ruby and great-great grandchildren, Bowdie, Laramie, Huxley, Brooks, Charlotte, Sunnovia and Greg Thomas, III.
A visitation for Evelyn will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered by Fr. Karl Daigle on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 204 Patton Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana 71105. Interment will follow at Hill Crest.
Pallbearers are Barron Long, Paul Duet, Matthew Duet, Andrew Duet, Justin Turner, Ethan VonZynda, Austin Smith and Greg Thomas Rhame, II. Honorary pallbearer, Owen Wayne Smith.
