Services celebrating the life of Eugene H. Lee will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Airline Baptist Church with Reverend Harrell Shelton and Reverend Danny Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Eugene H. Lee was born in Shreveport, LA on July 10, 1936 and passed away on June 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.
He was raised in Bossier City and graduated from Bossier High School in 1955, joining the National Guard in 1955 in high school where he became a tank commander and served for 8 eight years until 1963.
After serving in the National Guard, he was hired by Bossier City to serve the community as a firefighter. During his twenty years of service with the fire department, he rose to the position of Assistant Fire Chief of Bossier City. During his service, he was awarded a commendation from the Mayor of Bossier City, Marvin E. Anding, for his assistance along with five other firefighters when the group he commanded were credited with saving the lives of Rita, and Travis Swenson on September 10, 1981 after they were resuscitated after being found unconscious and not breathing from food poisoning.
While serving in the fire department he started up a fire extinguisher sales and service business part time that he ran until 1985 at which time the business was sold. Also during this time, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Bossier Federal Credit Union where he served for several years. After retiring from the fire department, he re-entered the business world and worked at Cole Plastic Pipe along his mother-in-law, Helen Cole until her death in 1994.
In 1994, he retired fully and travelled North America along with his wife Christine in a motorhome with their best friends Bobby and Lois Mangum. Eugene enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved LSU football and baseball but particularly loved to follow the baseball team and made several trips to watch LSU play in the College World Series, including the last time LSU won the National Championship with his sons and grandsons.
Faith also played an integral part of his life as he served at Barksdale Methodist Church in Bossier City, Haughton Southern Methodist Church where he served on the board of the Southern Methodist College in South Carolina, and finally at Airline Baptist Church where he was active in his Sunday School Class and loved to learn and grow in his faith. He also loved to sing and was active in each church in the music ministry where he served in the choir. He also sang in a Shreveport Barbershop Quartet. Eugene was a fine example of a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rose (Rochale) Lee; brothers, Fred Lee, Jimmy Lee, Leonard Lee and David Stentz, and stepmother Ernestine Lee.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Christine Lee; sons; David Eugene Lee and wife Rachel and Bruce W. Lee and wife Lynn; grandchildren, Lauren Lee, Garrett Lee and Ryan Lee; sisters, Doris Stanley and husband John and Carolyn Porterfield; brother, Kerry Stenz and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mark and Mike Mangum, Randy Tullis, Clint Fergason, Rusty Sullivan, Carson McCain, and Sid Johnston.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Teague, Mark Moritz, Bobby Mangum, Retired Sheriff Richard Fewell, and members of his Sunday School Class, the “Minute Men” at Airline Baptist Church.
