Gene grew up in Haughton, Louisiana and graduated from Bossier Academy. Some of his most told stories from his high school and young adult ages included playing basketball at school, reading western novels tucked behind his textbooks, competing in rodeos with his horse, Chainsaw, and watching his basset hound, Beauregard, trip over those long floppy ears.
As an adult, Gene raised three children, Logan, Kami, and Heather and was a professional truck driver. Over the years, he drove all types of trucks to include oil tankers, log trucks, cement trucks, dump trucks, and garbage trucks. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed watching professional and college sports, reading westerns and books about history, listening to music and talk radio, and sitting on the front porch scratching his dog’s ears. He loved talking about the civil war, current politics, the latest sport statistics, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his baby brother, Terry Glynn Disotell; his daughter, Heather Lynne Disotell; his parents Earl Edward and Janice Sales Disotell as well as his grandparents and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Gene is survived by his children, Logan Disotell and Kami Benson; his grandchildren, CJ, Aries,Trenten, Kinsley, Ayden, Darcy, Jackson, and Maddixx; his sister and brother in law, John and Bonnie Smithey; and nieces Crystal Gann and Terri Paul.
Gene will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Haughton on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
