Carl was born in Ashland County, Ohio, on February 1, 1932, and was the second of eight children. He graduated from Ashland High School in Ashland, Ohio in 1950 and served in the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Pam Riddle Keener on October 2, 1953. After serving in the Air Force, he worked for the United States Post Office in Bossier City for 30 years and retired in 1987 as Supervisor of Mails and Delivery. Carl also served his community as a Bossier Parish Posse member. Through the years, he faithfully served the Lord in a variety of ways. He was a deacon of the church, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school department director, church training leader, and member of various other church committees. He was a well-respected member of Cypress Baptist Church.
Carl was blessed with a loving family and he treasured his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents, Orra and Evelyn Keener, and brother, Earl Keener. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pam Keener; daughter, Sharon Keener French of West Monroe; and son, Gary Keener and wife Belinda of Bossier City. He was Pawpaw to six grandchildren: Casey French and wife Meagan, Lindsay Miley and husband Chris, Jeremy Keener and wife Kristen, Valerie DeVille and husband Darren, Jennifer Martz, Jake Keener, and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Annabelle Kettering and husband George, Velma Gilmore and husband Vernon, Leon Keener and wife Rita, Daniel Keener and wife Betty, Donna Kettering and husband Daniel, Wanda Caudill, and many nieces and nephews.
He was kind and soft-spoken and was loved by all that knew him. He was a beloved father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. We would like to thank family and friends for the continued prayers; and his hospice nurse, Leslie, for displaying such compassion in his final hours. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to his caregiver, Cynthia Combs, for the exceptional care she provided.
Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton on Friday, May 7, 2021,
at 2:00 PM with the services following at 3:30 PM presided by Senior Adult Pastor Tommy Patton of Cypress Baptist Church.
Honoring him as pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeremy Keener, Jake Keener, and Darren DeVille; great-grandsons, Caden Floyd and Levi DeVille; and special friends, Johnnie Woodard and Mike Rowland.
