Shreveport - Albert Madison Smoak, Jr, 94, a lifelong resident of Bossier and Caddo parishes, passed away on March 21, 2023 of natural causes. He was born March 29, 1928, in Shreveport to Albert Madison Smoak and Lissie Estella Sewell Smoak, and lived in Daingerfield, Texas, before moving to Bossier City.
Albert graduated from Bossier High School; worked at the Ice House in Bossier hand-delivering 50 & 100 lb. blocks of ice to homes and businesses before the convenience and wide-spread use of refrigerators; graduated from Business School in Shreveport; in 1947 joined and worked ten years for Builders Supply Company in Shreveport, where he met Irene Rhoads, his wife of 67 years; served our Country eight years in the Army National Guard; served as the head accountant for Bill Hanna Ford in Shreveport; worked at Redi-Fit Sales in Shreveport; then worked for and retired from the Bossier Parish School Board in the tax department. He loved farming and gardening, and never backed up from hard work. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Albert was a long-time member of the Pentecostals of Bossier City and served many years as the assistant Treasurer and Treasurer.
Mr. Smoak was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Andrew Smoak. He is survived by his wife, Irene Rhoads Smoak, his sons, Malcolm Smoak (Janice) of Benton, Randal Smoak (Sandie) of Dixie, Richard Smoak (Pamela), Missionaries 36 years to Tanzania, Africa, grandchildren, Bradley Smoak, Brandon Smoak (HannahBeth), Victoria Smoak, Julianne Smoak Moll (Caleb), Rose Smoak, and Gordon Smoak (Rachel), and great grandchildren Virginia, Thomas, and Charlotte.
A special thanks to the many wonderful caregivers, doctors, nurses, and staff at Willis Knighton, who worked diligently, with such loving care, to help him battle and try to overcome the health issues that ended up taking his life.
His pallbearers will be his sons, grandsons, and Carlton Golden. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Dykes and Ron Griffing.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 24, 2023 at The Pentecostals of Bossier City, 2833 Viking Drive, Bossier City, LA and the funeral service will be held immediately following at 11:00 am with Rev. Jerry Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
