John "Jack" Thomas McNamara

John (Jack) Thomas McNamara, 90, of Harrisonburg, died Monday, December 22, 2014 at Sentara-RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. He was born December 19, 1924 in Ballina, Ireland and was the son of the late Patrick and Anne McCormick McNamara. John graduated from De La Salle Institute in New York City and attended Pace College. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the European Theatre Bombing Squadron 110th Division. He was a national sales manager for WHSV television station before retiring and an advertising executive for Canada Dry and Pepsi Cola. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Precious Blood Catholic Church and B.P.O Elks. On November 19, 1950, he married Dorene C. McNamara. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, John Terrence McNamara and wife, Carie of Montpelier, Hugh Scott McNamara and wife, Jennifer of Roanoke, and Kevin Dale McNamara and wife, Carol of Madison; eight grandchildren, David McNamara and wife, Muy, Peter McNamara and wife, Mary, Ruth and husband, Joel Hess, Joy, Joel, Daniel, Dale and Mary Katherine McNamara; and one great-granddaughter, Lily Hess. John will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Precious Blood Catholic Church in Culpeper, VA with Rev. Anselme Malonda-Nkuanga officiating.
