John (Gatewood) Buchanan, IV of Kitty Hawk, NC passed away on December 23, 2021 in Bridgewater, Virginia at his grandparents home. John was born on August 27, 1987, to Christine and John Buchanan of Southern Shores, NC. He was raised in Fairfax, VA and spent his elementary school years in Lima, Peru, and Bangkok, Thailand. He graduated from Robinson High School in Fairfax, VA and James Madison University. He worked in banking and retirement management for several years then moved to the Outer Banks, NC where he ran his own pool and spa business. He enjoyed working for himself and took pride in the service he provided to his customers. John was a sports fanatic and loved watching games with his family and friends. He was an excellent golfer and played in the Virginia State Golf Championship and other national tournaments in high school. He loved his family, friends, and pets Bella, Mac and Bosley.
John is preceded in death by his grandfather, Claytor Graham Coleman, Jr. He is survived by his parents Christine and John; his brother Coley; his grandparents Renie Coleman, Jackie and John Buchanan; his uncles Stewart Coleman and Clay Coleman; his aunt Laura (Glass) Coleman; his cousins Carter Coleman, Thomas Coleman, and Clay Coleman.
A memorial service will be held at the family columbarium in St. John's Episcopal Church, 205 Elmwood Avenue, Lynchburg, Va. 24503, on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Those wishing to remember John are encouraged to donate to your local animal shelter or Humane Society in his memory.
