Born September 19, 1941, in Harrisburg; he was the son of the late Peter and Joanna (Katanis) Sarris; and preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary and Anna (Klentos) Sarris.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Ruth Ann (Jaeschke) Sarris; three daughters, Anne M. Parke and her husband, Timothy, Mary R. Towns and her husband, Michael, and Alexis D. Kierce and her husband, David; son, William H. ”Bill” Sarris and wife Deborah; 11 grandchildren, William (Emily), Alex, Eleni, Anna, Meredith, Michael, Andrew, Rachael (Alex), Hannah (Dave), Josh, and Maya (Chris); 5 great-grandchildren, Eneka, Lillian, Blake, Louie, Kendall, and Ravi; and two brothers, Michael and John Sarris, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill led an extraordinary life; he began working for Stanley Warner Theaters at the age of 14 as an Usher. He worked his way up the ladder as the Vice-President of all the Eric Theaters where he had offices in Philadelphia and in Beverly Hills.
Though he had a passion for the theater business, Bill's true dream was to own a restaurant. After retiring from the movie industry, he pursued this goal, initially partnering with a friend to co-own a diner. However, he soon decided to involve his entire family and purchased The Food Factory Restaurant in Hummelstown, PA, near Hershey Park. This is where Bill truly flourished, crafting homemade soups and sauces, expanding the business to include Fiddler’s on the second floor, and later adding an ice cream parlor and game room. Bill cherished working alongside his wife and children every day. In June of 2000, the family made the decision to sell the business, and Bill officially retired.
Retirement didn't keep Bill idle for long. He soon joined the Security Department at Harrisburg Hospital, where he enjoyed driving nurses and hospital staff in the shuttle to and from the parking lots. Bill's friendly nature earned him many friends at the hospital, and he was well-respected by his colleagues. He finally retired at the age of 81.
Bill’s greatest joy in his life was vacationing in Brigantine, NJ, with his family. He never missed a year renting a home large enough for the entire extended family to be together under one roof. He cherished the evenings spent playing games and making memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 27, 2024, in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Dr., Camp Hill. Private Burial will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery. A viewing will be from 10:00 AM Friday until the time of the service at the church.
