He was a retired sales manager for Stroehman’s Bakery and a U. S. Marine Corp veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He attended St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland and was a former member of the Steelton Moose. He was a member of the Lawnton American Legion Post 998, Rutherford VFW Post 1213, AMVETS Post 286, and the Verhovay Club. He was a life member of the Enola Sportsman Club, North American Hunting Club, the Mosquito Creek Sportsman Club, Clearfield, the Snow Shoe Democratic Club, and president of the Bloom Hunting Camp, Centre Co.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Hardman) Pickel; daughter, Paula K. Shuler, husband, Thomas, of Etters; 2 sons, Steven S. Pickel, wife, Susan, of Tomball, TX and Timothy P. Pickel, wife, Barbara, of Duncannon; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 step daughters, Jill L. Ference, husband, Hubert Chapman, of Alto, GA and Amy V. Pendleton, of Atlanta, GA; stepson, Sgt. William C. Pendleton IV, wife, Debra, of Ft. Riley, KS; and sister, Margaret Wenrich, of Enola.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alice Pickel; his first wife, Geraldine L. (Umholtz) Pickel; and his brother, Richard Pickel.
Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. A visitation will be held 2:00 PM Saturday until the time of the service.
Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
