Nancy Jo Bluhm, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on December 9, 2024.
Nancy Jo was born at the Eleanor Moore County Hospital in Boone, Iowa, on March 19, 1936. She was the daughter of G. Albert Smith and Katherine Hunt Smith.
Nancy Jo attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Boone High School in 1954. She received her acceptance to Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa. Upon graduation in 1957, she returned to Boone and was a Nurse in the Boone Hospital until 1961. She then moved to Omaha, Nebraska, to be a Nurse at Children’s Memorial Hospital, where she worked until 1965. During these four years, she worked as an office nurse for several Pediatric Physicians. From 1965-1969, she worked as an Assistance Head Nurse in the Emergency Department of Nebraska Methodist Hospital. It was during this time that she met her husband, Paul F. Bluhm, an Air Force Officer. They were married in June, 1974, and moved to Ramstein AB, West Germany in 1975. This time was a wonderful four-year honeymoon! While at Ramstein, Nancy Jo worked in the Emergency Room at Landstuhl, West Germany, which was the largest Army hospital outside the U.S.A. She felt privileged to be a Nurse for the service men and women. She finished her career as a substitute school nurse in Rome, NY, Papillion, NE, and the Cumberland Valley School District in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Nancy Jo was an active member of Saint Joseph Church in Mechanicsburg where she served as a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick, Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and the leader of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) for 10 years. In her free time, Nancy Jo enjoyed Crewel embroidery.
Nancy Jo is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on January 8, 2022. She is survived by her Stepsons Christopher (Wendy) Bluhm and Derin (Laurel) Bluhm, her Brother, George Smith of Boone, Iowa and nephews Kim Smith, Chris Smith and niece, Tammi Chitwood. She will be missed by many friends.
No public services will be held. Contributions in celebration of Nancy Jo’s life can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 E Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
