George D. Kurtz, 95, of Harlan, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. He was born on May 5, 1928 in rural Allen County, a son of the late Ralph E. and Erlena M. (Yerks) Kurtz. He graduated from Harlan High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer, operating Kurtz Farms located in rural Allen County. He was a member at Promise Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. He was also active with Associated Churches, serving on their board for several years, and the Harlan Lions Club. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed collecting coins and arrowheads. He also greatly enjoyed going to his children and grandchildren’s activities, rarely missing them. Surviving family include his children, Marla Kurtz, Jill (Tom) Weaver, Becky (John) Montgomery, and Ralph (Diana) Kurtz; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June (Keller) Kurtz; an infant daughter, Susan; and four sisters and three brothers. Funeral service will be 10:00 am on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Promise Lutheran Church, 7323 Schwartz Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the church. Burial will be in Harlan Memorial Cemetery, Harlan. Memorials may be made to Promise Lutheran Church or Associated Churches. Hockemeyer Funeral Home, Harlan is caring for arrangements.
