Joan was an incredibly strong woman raising five children for a time as a single mother then as a Navy pilot’s wife during three extended combat deployments to Vietnam. She was a leader in her community, caring for her own family while also providing unwavering support for other military families experiencing losses and the constant stress of having spouses in harm’s way. A true matriarch and caregiver she brought the family together for decades of Easters, Thanksgivings and Christmases as well as trips to Disneyland and the Coast. She was the glue of the family, connecting all. She insisted on attending every athletic event, concert and graduation possible and could always be found standing in the front of the crowd and cheering the loudest. Joan was a giver, providing support and care to everyone she encountered, from her family to her neighbors and to a constant stream of pets, all rescued often taking up residence in the house or garage. Generous with her time and love, dedicated to family and community, she volunteered for many years at the Adventist Health Hospital and the Carnegie Museum.
In accordance with her wishes she was cremated and there will not be a service. Her disposition was carried out by People’s Funeral Chapel in Hanford and her ashes will be distributed in a location of her choosing. A Celebration of Life in remembrance of Joan will be held on November 4th at The Kings Country Club, 3529 12th Ave. Hanford, CA at 1:00 PM. Lunch will be served. Please call (559) 212-7471 or (559) 904-5681 by October 20th if you plan to attend. In lieu of flowers, it was Joan’s wish that a donation be made to your favorite charity.
