Ernest Clarence Avila, 92, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in Hanford, California. He was born December 4, 1924, to Manuel and Angelina (Alves) Avila in Hanford, California. In his earlier years of life, he was a dairyman and farmer in the Hardwick area of Kings County. Ernest and his father milked cows by hand until electricity and modern equipment arrived. Some of his other skills were welding and mechanics. He enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing & scuba diving especially eating what he caught or shot. Ernest was a long time member of the Elks Club, Cabrillo Club, and Laton Lions Club.
Survivors include his 2 sons, Michael Avila of Kingman, AZ and Randy Avila of Arroyo Grande, CA and 1 daughter, Cathie Edwards of Twin Falls, ID; 1 sister Betty Flemer of Newport Beach, CA; 6 grandchildren Michael Avila Jr., Michelle Derby, Christopher Edwards, Tamara Johnston, Jared Avila, and Jenae Avila-Krisell; and 5 great-grandchildren Brendon Avila, Teagan & Taylor Johnston, and Wyatt & Memphis Derby; as well as 2 nephews, Scott & Ross Flemer, and 1 niece, Lynn Flemer, and extended family member Sandra Rogers-Avila and other relatives and friends.
A time of gathering will be held on Friday, July 28th at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery; 11680 S. 10th Ave., Hanford, California.
