Elsie Powell

Elsie Powell, 91 peacefully went to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Hanford, California with her family at her side. Elsie was born to Paul & Louise Medack in Giddings, Texas on October 22, 1923. As a child Elsie attended St. Paul Lutheran Church Parochial School in Serbin, Texas. Elsie had been a resident of Hanford for the past 65 years since moving here with her late and loving husband, John Powell who passed away in 2008. John and Elsie were married in 1951 and had two beautiful daughters; Karen and Barbara. Elsie had retired after 25 years for Beacon Oil Co. in Hanford as a Supervisor.

Family and friends looked forward to the holidays with Elsie, especially Christmas open house on Christmas Eve, it was always perfect, beautiful and she was the greatest hostess! She enjoyed cooking for everyone and was admired for her great gourmet cooking. Elsie was a fantastic seamstress, loved shopping and always dressed in the latest fashions. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She will always be remembered by her daughters for how wonderful she was to them.

Elsie is preceded in death by her parents; Paul & Louise Medack, her loving husband; John Powell, her siblings; Ludwig Medack, Paul Medack, Hattie Mitschke and Ester Lampp and her son-in-law; Norman Saunders.

Elsie is survived by her beloved daughters; Karen Saunders of Amarillo, Texas and Barbara Alewine and her husband; Wesley of Hanford, California. She will be dearly missed by her siblings; Alice Aalund, Louise Moeller, Helen Wenthe and her husband; Bill and Vi Sherk all of Texas. Elsie will also be cherished by her 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; Kendra Lichtie, Kyle Saunders, Amber Hendry, Alyson Scorby, Ashlee Alewine, Railey Reeves, Kellyn Reeves, Kelsey Saunders, Hogan Reeves, Hudson Lichtie, Brylee Alewine, Sydnee Saunders, Gage Saunders and Austin Hendry.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to Hacienda Health Care for their tender love and care shown to Elsie for the past 7 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church; 9075 12th Avenue, Hanford, CA 93230 (559) 582-2463.
