Odie Woodrow Hare, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011. He was a native of Moore County, North Carolina and a 65 year resident of Hampton. He served honorably as a Machinist Mate Second Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Nuclear Pipe Welder for 36 years at Newport News Shipbuilding until his retirement in 1983. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and lifetime member of the Chesapeake Hunt Club. He was a member of Pine Chapel Baptist Church. Odie “Trueblu” was a kind, patient, humble and gentle spirit. He cherished his family and friends.
Odie is preceded in death by his four brothers, Norman, Alton, Marvin and Albert; two sisters, Ruby and Edna.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie; two sons, Dana and his wife Carol, Dara and his wife Laura; six grandchildren, Travis, Kristin, Aaron, Michelle, Ian, and Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzi and Colin; two brothers, Russell and Lacy; and two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Mary Cole.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Odie's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the medical providers and their staff for their loving care and kindness to Odie and his family.
