Melvin Firman Ward

Melvin F. Ward, age 92 departed this life on October 29, 2022. He was born April 22, 1930 in Poquoson, VA to Janie and William Ward. He grew up in the Messick area of Poquoson and was always proud of his “Bull Island” heritage. Melvin loved the water, his family and spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially the love of his life, Shirley, who always took such good care of him. Melvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Cartier, John, Lemuel, Levron, Oscar and Percy, sisters Mary and Mae, and by his granddaughter, Olivia Potter. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley; three daughters, Darlene Leeson (Jackie), Tina Potter (Ricky), Marion Grubb (Tom); and a son Wesley Ward (Angel); seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In keeping Melvin’s final wishes, there will be a private graveside service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2099, Poquoson, VA, 23662.
