It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Lori Louise Watkins, who peacefully departed this world on December 4, 2024, after her second courageous battle with cancer. In her final moments, Lori was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family and closest friends, in the home she cherished.
Family was the heart of Lori’s world. She was the devoted wife of Christopher Phillip Watkins Jr., the most loving mother to her three children, Brandon Michael, Brendan Scott, and Kali Lauren, and a proud and doting Nana to her seven cherished grandchildren. She was also a beloved daughter to Yvonne Kay Butler and the late Johnnie Lee Butler, and a dear sister to Kimberly Butler Spruell and Dwayne Scott Butler. Lori will be deeply missed by her entire family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her unwavering dedication to family, Lori was a passionate and impactful educator. Over her career in Newport News Public Schools, she shaped the lives of hundreds of students from Huntington to Passage to Gildersleeve. Known for her quick wit and no-nonsense nature, Lori left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Lori’s family asks that she be remembered for the immense joy, love, and laughter she brought into this world. Her greatest wish was for her loved ones to carry forward the light she so freely gave to all.
A ceremony to honor Lori’s life will be held on the evening of December 14 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with family and friends gathering at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Lori’s memory, honoring her legacy and supporting advancements in breast cancer research.
