Lee, a native of Latrobe Pennsylvania, was born in 1929. He was a resident of Hampton, Virginia since 1960.
Lee served in the U.S. Navy flying in various aircraft and as a radar operator on reconnaissance blimp missions. Lee completed his military career in the USAF retiring from Langley Air Force Base in 1967. He graduated from George Washington University with a MBA. Lee was a Director of Human Resources at Wyle Laboratories. He taught at Thomas Nelson, Old Dominion, and Norfolk State. Lee was instrumental in developing Phillips Athletic Association Soccer and Basketball leagues. He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church for 62 years where he served as an Elder, youth leader, and Sunday school teacher. Lee participated in vocational training initiatives at the high school and community college levels.
Lee was proceeded in death by his parents, Edith and Lester Stewart, four siblings, and his loving wife of 60 years, June Corrine Stewart. He leaves three children and their spouses, Debbie and Louie Andrews, Cindy and Garry Clark, and Bill and Staci Stewart. Also leaving eight grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren who affectionately called him “How Do” for his kind greeting to all he met.
Lee is survived by his loving wife of almost 11 years, Mary Lane Stewart. They enjoyed many happy years and used their time together to travel the world. Mary was a blessing to tenderly care for Lee in the last year of his life. He is survived by children of the Lane family and their spouses; Charlie Lane, Josie and Wade Bunn, Ellen Hughes, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 1:00 pm at Parklawn Funeral Home preceded by visitation at 12:00 pm with a reception to follow. Interment will follow later where Lee will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Community Presbyterian Church in Hampton.
