He was born on October 13, 1946, in Hampton, VA. He and his wife, Karen Ward Forrest, were married for 38 years and resided in Poquoson, VA. Jerry was a graduate of Poquoson High School in 1966. He was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding for many years as a master X-ray technician. Later he worked for the city of Hampton. He and Karen also owned and operated an upholstery shop in Poquoson for some time. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Order.
He had many hobbies he enjoyed, including boating and fishing. He also had a special talent for wood crafting and created many items we all have in our homes. He built model replicas of work boats, wooden driftwood lamps and many wood carvings of local fish species. He and Karen enjoyed spending time with their close friends Leon and Anne Binford, boating or spending weekends in their house in Matthews County. They also shared great love for their cats, Dusty and Midnight.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Leamond T. and Geneva Christine Forrest, and a brother, Bud Forrest Jr (Betty).
He was survived by his children, Amy Topping (I.C.), Jerry Forrest Jr. (Michelle), Russell Watkins (Dana), and Raymond Firth (Mischelle). He is also survived by his sister Cheryl Ryczaj (Bill), and brother William Forrest (Tami). He also leaves behind grandchildren Cori, Kayla, J.D., Stephanie, Candice, Courtney and Curtis, as well as 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A public visitation for Jerry will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. An interment to follow the service will occur at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. Following the services, the family will receive friends at Jerry's home, 27 Woodland Road Poquoson, VA 23662.
