James was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 11, 1980, and lived in Montgomery, Alabama, Springfield Virginia, and Mililani, Hawaii before coming to the Hampton Roads area in 1993. Autistic from birth, James was a shining example of being all you can be. He graduated from Bethel High School in 1998, and attended Thomas Nelson Community College, where he graduated with honors and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
He worked for 15 years at the Langley AFB Commissary, first for Versability, Inc., and then Brevard Achievement Center, and leaves behind many treasured co-workers. James loved traveling, American History, foreign languages, scrapbooking, making intricate paper models, bowling, and anything with barbeque sauce on it.
James leaves behind his parents, Michael (Col, USAF, ret) and Clare Stevens of Yorktown VA; aunts, Jean Stevens (Jeff Bernstein) of Kalamazoo MI, Monica Liebert (Hallie Kintner) of Ann Arbor MI, and Katherine Andrzejewski (Michael) of Milwaukee WI; uncle, James Liebert of Seattle WA; and beloved cousins.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A celebration of James’ life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Peninsula Food Bank.
