He was born to Hugh G. Koch and Bernadette A. Koch on August 10, 1949 in Kyoto, Japan where his father was serving in the U.S. Army following the end of World War II.
Jerry's life was spent in service to the Lord and consisted of always helping others and giving generously both to those less fortunate and to the many churches he attended. His college career which began at Old Dominion University was interrupted by a stint in the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam War in which he served with distinction. Upon his return he resumed his studies and graduated from Christopher Newport University with a degree in accounting later becoming a Certified Public Accountant. During a 36-year career with the City of Hampton he served as City Internal Auditor and as a Zoning Inspector. Additionally, Jerry served as an adjunct professor of accounting at Christopher Newport University.
Jerry leaves to mourn his passing his siblings Bonnie Lackey (Sam), Kathy Eckhardt (Dave), Larry Koch (Lisa) and Brian Koch as well as his former spouse Cathy Koch.
Never having had children of his own, Jerry lavished his attention on his nieces and nephews who he loved as though they were his own.
Visitation will take place at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022 followed by a service at 2:00 p.m.
Jerry would be pleased if, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy took the form of donations to a church of your choice or organizations serving the homeless.
