Ernest William Overby

Ernest W. Overby, age 89, passed away at Riverside Hospital on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. He was a native of Scottsburg, Virginia and resident of the Peninsula for over 60 years. Mr. Overby served honorably in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 21 years of service. He was a member of Orcutt Baptist Church for 31 years.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Elva Marie Overby; his last wife, Doris W. Overby; and his son, Ernest L. Overby. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Stevens and husband Darrel, Peggy Bruss and husband Dennis, and Deborah Politis and husband Jimmy; his sons, Jerry Overby and wife Mary Jane, Roger Overby, and Kevin Overby and wife Janene; his step-daughter, Sheri Stainback and husband Donald; his step-son, Sonny Hudson and wife Connie; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 11 from 6 – 7:30 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Ernest's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 12 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
