Earl was born in 1935 in Boykins, VA, to the late Virginia Earle Crutchlow and Turner Stephenson Lassiter. He graduated from Boykins High School in 1952, attended Chowan College from 1952-1953, and graduated from the Newport News Apprentice School in 1957.
Earl was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company for forty years in the machinist trade. Following his retirement, he worked for Casey Chevrolet, and later Hutchins Chevrolet (now priority Chevrolet) for another 20 years.
Earl was a charter member of Denbigh Presbyterian Church, now Denbigh United Presbyterian Church. He was an active member there, serving on the Board of Deacons and volunteering on a variety of church committees. Earl was instrumental in creating the church's basketball team and was its first coach. His work with the team was a source of great happiness for Earl and his wife Shirley, who was a faithful team manager. Earl and Shirley were devoted fans of The College of William and Mary's sports programs. For many years they held season passes for the College's basketball and football home games, and they enjoyed many road trips to attend the basketball team's postseason tournaments.
In addition to his parents, Earl was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Shirley Johnson Lassiter; his brother Archie Ray Lassiter; and several cousins.
Earl is survived by his sons Stephen Allison (Starlene) and Glenn Scott; grandchildren Sidney, Jesse Earl; brother Turner Wayne(Mary Jane); and several cousins.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, friend, and fellow church members who have assisted in caring for Earl throughout his illness.
