Barbara Lee Sanders

Ms. Barbara Lee Sanders was born in York County, South Carolina on March 26, 1941 to the late Effie Meek Sanders and Jesse Sanders. She departed from our lives in peace at the age of 81, on January 11, 2023.

She graduated from Jefferson High School in York, South Carolina in 1961. Thereafter, she moved to Hempstead, New York in which she started a career in sales. In 1967, she moved to Providence, Rhode Island in which she resided there for 36 years. During that time she worked for and retired from Amica Insurance Company. After retirement she moved to Hampton, Virginia in 2004.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jesse (J.T) Sanders.

We will always have the loving memories of Barbara in our hearts. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Wilkins; granddaughter, Jaleesa Tallent; grandson, Jared Wilkins; great grandson, Kristian Gaskin; 9 sisters, Isabelle Haggins of Hickory, NC., Alice Wilson of Hickory, NC., Emma Daniels of Hickory, NC., Iether Byrd of Gastonia, NC., Eula Mae Corners of Kennesaw, GA., Dorothy Donaldson of Hampton, VA., Mary Sanders of Gastonia, NC., Martha McNeil of Patterson, NJ., Catherine Sanders of Gastonia, NC.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666 followed by a celebration of Barbara’s life at 2:00 PM. Interment will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park after the service.
