Wednesday, January 15 at Riley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon till service time. Born in Leonard, Texas, in 1910, Ruth had reached the golden age of 103 years of age on November 9, 2013. She had many wonderful stories to share of her century plus life. She achieved success for she lived well, laughed often, loved much, gained the respect of adults and the love of small children, filled her niche and accomplished her tasks in life, left the world a better place than she found it, wrote poetry, never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty, the love of God, or failed to express it, always looked for the best in others and gave the best she had; a cancer survivor whose life was an inspiration; whose memory is a treasured blessing.
Ruth was one of seven children born to Freedom Alexander and Florence Rogers. F.A. Rogers was a member of the House of Representatives for two sessions in 1931 and 1933 in Austin, Texas. Ruth often accompanied him during election time. She was one of a set of twins, having a twin brother. Her early life was spent picking cotton, raising one son, Dale Max Taylor, working in dry goods stores for David Harelik, Clemmer-Vaughn and Haskel Harlik, who treated her like family and helping run a family store, Jackson Furniture, for many years in Hamilton, Texas. She was as skilled with a hammer as she was with a frying pan and hamburger steak. Her poor man’s cake was outstanding.
Preceding her in death were her parents and all six siblings, her granddaughter Lisa Taylor-Osborne, husband Burl Jackson and Dale’s father Carmel Taylor.
She is survived by one son, Dale Taylor, and his wife Freddie of Breckenridge, Texas. Also from Breckenridge a granddaughter, Michele Woodward and two great-grandchildren, Landry and Jackson Woodward; a grandson, Mark Taylor of Austin and his sons Zachariah Taylor and Isaiah Stewart also of Austin, Many nieces and nephews, and an immeasurable host of friends.
Memorials can be made to Fosters’ Children Home, 794 N. Graham St., Stephenville, Texas 76401 or any children’s home of your choice would be an appropriate memorial in her honor. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Breckenridge Church of Christ.
