Winters enjoyed cooking a good ‘chuck wagon’ meal and participating in cook-offs. He loved to read western books, specifically, all the Louis L’Amour. He grew the best tomatoes and grilled a top notch steak. He loved to go to Ruidoso where he caught the “race horse bug”. Winters loved to spend time at the races and being in the mountains.
He loved spending time with his grandkids. He had a keen eye for picking a good show pig. Some said he had the secret for feeding them out to perfection. In his later years of life, he would sit out in the barn with Shea Wilson, admiring all their show pigs. When you stopped by Winters place, you never left hungry and he always offered to make you one of his “famous” drinks, even up to his last days.
