Glenda Ruth Shinn

Glenda Ruth Shinn, age 79, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025 surrounded by her family. Glenda was born September 20, 1945 in Hamilton, Texas to Robert Burns Blackburn and Vera Mae Hopson Blackburn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Hurshel, Wanda, Deloris, Evelene, Donna, R.D., Jackie, and Billy.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Calvin Edgar (C.E.) Shinn; children, daughter Ronda Marie and husband Dana Allison, sons Jackie Leon Shinn, and Justin Dale Shinn and wife Millie, grandchildren Kristina Burks and husband Zac, Bailey Smith and husband Cole, Richard Bain, Cassidy Diaz, Kristin Shinn, Paige Hess and husband John, Amanda Shinn and fiancé Riley, Emily Nuelle and husband Conor, Asa Cathey, Macie Najera and husband Luis, Baylyn Parrish, and Kayden Hudson. Great Grandchildren include: Luis Diaz, Cameron Diaz, Lucas Hess, Leslie Burks, Lauren Burks, Zoey Diaz, Kooper Voss, Harper Barron, Kamden Hess, Ty Smith, Jase Smith, Hailyn Smith, Olivia Najera, Katie Smith, and Ella Hess. Two sisters, Betty Weeks and husband Gail, Teresa Cathey and husband Bobby, two sister in laws Jimmie Blackburn and Cindy Blackburn, as well as her best friend Lottie Royall and husband David. Additionally, the extended family includes a vast number of nieces, nephews, and many children who considered her their Nana.

Glenda was raised in Hamilton, Texas and attended Hamilton High School. She met C.E. in 1960 and they married on October 19, 1963. After marriage, she and C.E. lived in several locations in Southern Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. In late 1969, they relocated back to Hamilton, Texas with their first two children. In 1974, they welcomed their third child and continued to work and raise their family in Hamilton.

Glenda had several jobs in Hamilton, including 10 years at Walls Industries, 20+ years as an LVN at Hamilton General Hospital. However, her passion was antiques and exploring garage sales. This lead her to eventually open her own resale shop “Past Tymes” which was located in Hamilton at the corner of Main and Brown.

Glenda was unforgettable and kind. She would do anything for her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She was a life-long member of Victory Temple Church in Hamilton. She was the sweetest person and had much compassion. She will be forever missed by family and all who knew her.

A visitation for Glenda will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home, 402 West Main, Hamilton, Texas. A funeral service will be Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Victory Christian Fellowship, 100 Hercules, Hamilton, Texas followed by graveside services at Murphree Cemetery, 14801-14829 US 281, Evant, Texas.
